Kate's Cottage!

Yes it was actually called 'Kate's Cottage. Dollshouse Emproium made Kates cottage some years ago. John and I saw it in the window of our local shop exactly as it is here, garden and all. It was very pricey in the shop so didnt give it another thought but then one Christmas John decided to go see if the owner still had it and the shop was closed down!
When I saw it on ebay I knew it was the one. It stayed at its starting price for 6 days and on the last day crept from £9.99 to £25. I put in a higher bid at the last seconds but all it went up to was............................................£26!!!!! I won this gorgeous timber clad, 2 storey, fully lit, leaded light windows, with garden, house, for £26 can you believe it. John was chuffed to bits as this was to be my pressie from the 3 youngest!

I was nervous the seller would back out of the sale as Ive seen these cottages sell for over £100 with no lights etc. But she was lovley as pie about all my wins, just delighted they were going to an appreciative home!
This now sits in our hallway, lights all on of an evening.

I have one dilemma though.

It has no furniture so what to make it into. We are all disagreeing! I wanted a good witches house with a stocked larder/stove/ shelves in the kitchen of all lovely witches ingredients etc. A rustic witches bedroom upstairs. BUT John now says he thinks I should sell my Snow White house as it is, and use this instead! It has the garden I wanted for Snows house, the thatched roof ( albeit didnt take hours of DIY thatching like mine!) and thinks I could add more vines, climbers etc to the outside. The garden is to be overhauled. I dont like fake grass carpet style like this so will use the base and redo in proper grass, shingle, slates etc, add a pond. Ive taken a pic of me playing around with a few things ive been collecting for the garden to see what they look like. Theres a collection of wonderful Birds by Nicky C and a chicken coop I love from Nikki R, and those adorable bunnies and foxgloves in a walnut shell made by Lory . I think the garden will look lovely once done as I like it.

As for the house, I must admit the furniture all fits in beautifully but I cant decide!!

Whatever i do its one of THE best bargains I think Im ever likely to find!

Absolutely fabulous bargain Kate. Its a lovely Cottage and I could just see a Witch living in it, although I can also see Snow White there as well. I understand your dilemma.. xxx

Kate, I'm leaning towards John's choice of Snow White's House or some other pretty project. I personally think it's too pretty and sweet for a witch, especially the way you want it styled.

So, if it's not Snow White's House...hmmm....what about a kindly old lady's house, with sweet/pretty cottage like furniture, comfy sofa and winged chair, patch work quilt on the bed lots of pretty china in the dresser, etc. A very cosy styled cottage. Of course it will ultimately be up to you! ;o))

I had a look on Ebay this afternoon, I saw some fab greenhouses and Conservatory's (I want one for Nanny McPhee and might make a spare for Hogwarts). Alas NOT one cheap dollshouse! lol You have MORE than a bargain for all your little wonder houses!! Wonderful! You will have to buy a real life bigger home soon! lol ;o)

Debbie it IS a dilemma! I think had I not put so much work into the thath I would jump at using it for Snows house. The wood is better on this one, but Id need to make it abit more rustic inside. The garden is ideal though! xx

Michelle,John had me trying to take off the vines Ive done on the other house and put them around the door of this one today , hes adamant it will be the best choice. I get bored with ordinary houses, has to have some sort of fantasy feel to it hence why i thought maybe a good witch but still unsure. The Snow furniture looks great downstairs, and theres even a cubby hole to the right of the stairs I could store some of the dwarves instruments lol!
Hope you get a bargain. I HAVE to stop looking or we will be taken over by houses! We need to win the lottery to get a bigger house to put them in. Im only 42 and the children all want stickers with their names on, for which houses they want left to them lol Lets hope thats alot of years and by that time they will be finished projects eh! !!!!!

If I were you, I'd have a play around with furniture you have and see what you prefer. Don't change it structurally till you're sure. I think they both would suit Snow White's House, is one bigger than the other? If it is, maybe the decision could be based on that too.

Maybe I should have been more explicit, a kindly old lady, but who is really a white witch, you know the type I mean?

I do feel for you both....I'm not good when it comes to my own choices. lol ;o))

I’d like to be able to finish my witch’s house this year…one less to do then! lol

Susan, Fate it is exactly, just HAD to have it, even more of a bonus to be such a cheap project!xx
Michelle, Im quite useless at decision making. The annoying thing is the house is the same size room wise, and this is loose, not fixed down so I can actually put the other thatched house on this garden if I wanted to and have this like you say as a good witch house ,( that was my initial thought!) with a lovely stove and shelves of things in the style of Nikki Rowe ( love her material topped jars of goodies!) It wouldnt suit a grungy look witches house like Debbie agreed.
The other thing is this house dosnt have a window to the garden for the bad witch to bring her apples to the window as Snow makes her pie and Id love to eventually have the dolls made to do that. This only has a door downstairs! I could apply a thinner thatch to this one on top of the existing roof, but like you say, i need to think and play before I make that final decision!! thanks for your help! xx

Old Maid ( sorry how rude not to know your name! ) Hi, thanks, you can get some great bargains, but maybe I should concentrate on finishing a few more before I look again lol! xx
