Can anyone help me make Miniature Boots and shoes?

Hi all, still not fully in the land of the living but had a question that may be able to be answered by those of you who make dolls costumes.

A freind of mine would ike some dolls heeled shoes and boots made for her dollshouse clothes shop and has asked me to help as i have make her corsets, parasols, hats etc. I have never tried shoes and am struggling to find any tutorials to help me out.
The style we both would like is more material ones so I can add fancy trims etc. do you remember Perri Edwards that sold gorgeous shoes and boots ? She used to have a website and sell at fairs but I have not seen or heard of her for a while but hers are the style I would like to try. I do not want to make them fully made of clay which is the only CDHM tutorial I can find. Also want them to have a heel.

If anyone can recommend a tutorial or doll book that would help or has any tips I would be much oblidged

Be back soon, another night with no sleep as Lola now has the bug!!

Kate, Minidolls.com has a shoe tutorial http://www.minidolls.com/Tutorial/Shoe.shtml
I have made some shoes in the past and first made a shape of the foot (or used a dolls foot)as a last, just like a cobbler would do. I don't like the way the heels are made in this tutorial but you could make some out of polymer clay and cover with the fabric or paint them the appropriate color.

Tabitha your a star, just what I wanted, like you say not sure on the heels but could try out of fimo! Will definatly have a go. Now to work out how to make boots using the same type of teqhnique!! thankyou!! Kate xx

My pleasure Kate. Be sure and show us how they turned out. I don't think the boots would be too hard to adapt. It's all in the cutting of the "uppers", it seems. It might take a bit of experiemnting at first but you can do it. Be sure to write down what you do...I sometimes forget to do that then I forget what I've done that works out of all the things I've tried!

Hi Kate, Here is a great boot tutorial by Dutch dollmaker Annemarie Kwikkel: http://www.byannemariedolls.com/boot.html
Saw some fabulous shoes by an Italian woman at the fair in Arnhem today. Unfortunately she doesn't have a website yet, but she sells under the name 'Scarpe e Pelleteria'.

Hi Kate,

I'd love to make shoes too! You must keep us posted when you make some!

I have a wardrobe that has shoe racks that need to be filled! I have a kit that makes 12 pairs (slippers and shoes) from CraftPack Company, so I will have a go with those first before embarking on something more fancy and elaborate!

I might be able to. If you look at last month DHWORLD MAGAZINE I had an article to make wizard slippers you can use this method to make other shoes by adding either fimo heels or rolled up leather. :-) xxxxx
